Divisadero: The Best Place for Your Next Date Night

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

While other streets have sunsetted their nightlife, the Divisadero corridor remains a strong outpost.

The road is peppered with everything from chill ice cream shops to busy arcades, so here are a few recommendations:

Grab Dinner at Horsefeather

Horsefeather is a restaurant that calls itself casual, but we’d recommend reservations and an open mind about prices. The cocktails are under $20 but they serve the water in those fancy bottles and they offer duck fat fries, so it still feels like a nicer date spot. Divis is great because it doesn’t get as cold as other parts of SF, but it’s still worth noting:  If you sit outside, they’ve got heat lamps so you can feel like a cozy little lizard even on a foggy night.

Play Together at Emporium

Emporium is a cavernous and joyful experience for the young at heart. It’s 21 and up and has a well-stocked bar; there are classics like Dance, Dance, Revolution, racing, and shooting. But it also hosts hotly anticipated tournaments and brings in a variety of people. The only weird thing is that there’s a storage closet inside of one of the women’s restroom stalls. For accessible toilet paper? Or is there some creep inside of it looking through the slots as you pee?

Jokes aside, it’s considered a classic date spot for a reason. Friendly competition shows you how well you play with someone while also elevating some of the more positive brain chemicals that allow you to bond. This is probably the best pick on the list for a flirty first date.

Chill at The Page

The Page sits on the quiet corner of Page Slow Street. The outside tables flock against the building under living room decor, including oil paintings and antlers. A statue of St. Francis of Assisi watches over the parklet. Inside, cash-only drinks at dive bar prices keep customers happy. Part of the charm is that everything from the carpet and somewhat strange smells reminds us of having a drink in a distant relative’s den. It’s homey, quirky, and crowded by locals – perfect for a second date or a married couple’s night out.

Ball Out at Bi-Rite

Bi-Rite: The market’s carrot cake is seraphic and sweet; stocked local tulips have the biggest heads in a dazzle of colors, and the cashiers are friendly faces in a well-lit corner store. Ok, ok, it’s way more pricey than a corner store… But if you’re out on the town and planning to spend money, it’s a good option for grab-n-go items. Head here if you want to impress your situationship but still keep things lowkey if you’re too chickenshit to call it a date.

What did we miss? Too many to name. Beyond this list, there’s Gamescape, Brenda’s Meat & Three, Che Fico, and more… Divisadero is still one of the best places for date night in SF.
