Charlie Kirk Scheduled to Speak at SF State

Update: You can read about how the event went right here.
Charlie Kirk is bringing the “American Comeback tour” to San Francisco, and if you ever wanted to punch a Nazi, now’s your chance. I don’t endorse assault or violence of any kind, I’m just saying, you have the opportunity if you’re inclined.
Kirk, who’s known for his support of Donald Trump and pushing Christian values, has been traveling to college campuses across the country. He’s been getting into heated debates with students over topics like politics, religion, and LGBTQ+ rights. Some of these moments have gone viral on Instagram. Kirk essentially has made a career of debating 18 year old who have just learned about what Marxism is.
Students at SF State are expecting a large turnout and a potentially violent scene as supporters of Kirk and protesters clash. To keep things under control, campus police are planning to be stationed around Arballo Drive and Font Boulevard before, during, and after the event, according to Ingrid Williams, a university official who spoke to Golden Gate Express.
The event isn’t going to be a typical speech, but an open mic Q&A. The event will also include anti-trans athlete Riley Gains who was added as a last minute addition to the event.
While Freedom of Speech is sacred, there’s really no reason for this event other than to antagonize students. This event coincides with the Trump Administration sending undocumented immigrants to a concentration camp, escalating trade wars with allies and enemies alike, and a gutting of America’s notoriously flimsy social safety net. Many are wondering why SF State is allowing Charlie Kirk and Riley Gains to even speak on campus. The whole point of the event is to get clips for Instagram making left-leaning students look stupid, and by association, creating more fuel for right wing disinformation regarding San Francisco.
The biggest issues in the United States are income inequality, lack of access to basic needs, homelessness, and various types of discrimination. Charlie Kirk isn’t going to focus on any of these issues. He’s just going to regurgitate talking points to ill-equipped students in attempt to score “gotcha moments” that he will inevitably post online.
SF State is shooting itself in the foot with this move. They could have just told refused Kirk’s request, but they didn’t. They’re instead creating an unsafe environment for students and faculty alike as the potential for a violent reaction to Kirk’s incendiary hate speech is real.
