Beats, BBQ and Broke-Ass Disco

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Labor Day is upon us and as the summer comes to a close, here’s one last weekend to break out those beer coozies and hot pants. For us broke-asses without summer shares and well, cars, you can still live it up this three-day weekend and avoid the Jersey shore altogether.

What’s more American then eating free barbecue on Labor Day weekend? Don your favorite ironic bald eagle cut off t-shirt and head over to Art Land Bar for their Beats & BBQ party. Charred meats and veggies are free provided you buy some booze. After polishing off your freedom fries enjoy old soul and house music from resident DJ’s.

I know a Monday off is no biggie for a lot of folks, but I take my holiday weekends very seriously. This usually involves some sort of open bar, Elaine-inspired dancing followed by sobering photos on the internet the next day. For those of you who actually know how to work-it, Santos Party House is bringing back their famous disco party. If you’re like me and want to get your party on early, get there before 7 for a $5 cover, or $12 with flyer. DJ Danny Krivit’s is celebrating the release of his compilation cd release and will of course be throwing down some Chaka Kahn for your pleasure. And just to clarify that’s baby powder on the floor not “other” substances. This ain’t the seventies anymore.

Santos Party House
6-12PM
$5 Cover before 7PM
$12 with Flyer
$20 after 7PM
96 Lafayette St (Walker and White) [Chinatown]

Laura S - Spendthrift Scribe

Laura S, left the "sixth borough" three years ago to settle in Brooklyn. After working at some daily rags, she now does writing on the side but still eats more Ramen then necessary. When she's not moving residences every 6 months, eating her way through every neighborhood, and trying every microbrew known to man, she is unsuccessfully rediscovering home economics. With her binging days behind her, she's now exploring new projects and rediscovering the city that she loves (although is still prone to sliding on her knees during a Prince karaoke set).
