FREE Life Drawing plus Burlesque

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Dr. Sketchy’s is celebrating the New Year with burlesque queen Madame Rosebud in a tribute to the novel, Disco Bloodbath.  AND if you show up dressed in an Angel costume, you get in for FREE!

Now what is Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School you might be wondering?  This a life drawing class with a cabaret extravaganza twist.  Don’t worry; you won’t be forced on stage.  For three hours, you (the artist) draw while New York’s most beautiful burlesque dancers, bizarre circus freaks, and rippling hunks of man pose for you.  It’s sexy life drawing!  Interspersed with posing are comedy skits and ridiculous drawing contests (best left handed drawing? Best incorporation of a woodland animal?) where you can win booze or prizes.  Founded in 2005 by artist Molly Crabapple, Dr. Sketchy’s is the little Brooklyn event that became a movement.  Drawing/Burlesque events have spread to over 100 cities on five continents, including London, Rome, Tokyo, Paris, Sao Paulo, and Melbourne.  Events are held in New York every other weekend.  Now, get drawing bitches!  (Just don’t forget to bring your own art supplies.)

Danielle Levanas - Bargain Soul Huntress

Danielle was raised by a pack of coyotes in the Los Angeles hills. Since arriving in NY in 2001, she has had any number of strange jobs, including back-up singing for JELVIS (the Jewish Elvis), starting the non-profit LYDIA, and writing political cabarets. A huge advocate for travel as a way of life, you can find her at the Brooklyn Public Library when her bank account is empty, fantasizing about where to head off to next.
