Who Needs College? Get Educated on the Cheap in Brooklyn

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

We’ve all got something we wish we knew more about. No one is perfect, after all; in fact, most of us are deeply flawed human beings who have no idea what we’re talking about. It’s fine to admit it. I’ll even go first! I do not have a college degree and I do not know how to make pie crust. Cold butter?? Who does that?

It’s fine, Mom and Dad! Brooklyn Brainery has a class for that. No, not remedying being a dropout – I’m still talkin’ about the pie. Mm!

hello, lover

This Brooklyn-based educational collective has classes on a lot of subjects, actually, if pie isn’t your thing. A cursory glance at the web site reveals upcoming classes in American Sign Language, denim, whiskey, an intro to typography, and New York history. They switch up their course offerings frequently and they only charge $25 a class.

In short, the classes are cheap and delightful in comparison to the stodgy alternative (up yours, college!) AND they might end in pie. Or whiskey! Consider yourselves convinced.

Polina Yamshchikov - Flirt Poor

Polina is Siberian by way of Alabama, and therefore cannot pronounce "fire" or "iron" correctly but despite this can still woo men with her cooking skills and enormous Russian cheeks. She can usually be spotted on the streets of Brooklyn either yelling into a cell phone in one of five languages or swilling gin at an inappropriate hour of the morning.
