Lulu's Raises the FREE Pizza Bar in Greenpoint

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

My family is in town. They’ve seen the sites, they’ve walked in the mysterious street puddles, they’ve had someone sneeze on them in the subway… they’ve pretty much done it all, people! As I racked my brain for more to do, however, I realized that there was one more pivotal NYC site they had not seen yet: A bar that gives free pizza with a beer purchase. So I took them to Lulu’s.

I know there’s the usual Crocodile, Alligator and Charleston. But those are best enjoyed only when so drunk that you need the pizza more than the beer, and don’t really need the pizza to be even taste like pizza, and your sense of smell is impaired due to inebriation. Lulu’s, however, is worth paying for. Not only can you add classy toppings like artichoke hearts, ricotta, sausage (and veggie sausage… it is Brooklyn, after all) for just $1 extra, but even just the regular cheese freebie pie is pretty damn good.

The means to the end, the beer, is plentiful and includes bottle and draft beers from local folks like Bluepoint and Brooklyn Pumpkin floating around $5. You can work off the beer at the pool table or dancing to the free live music…or you know, you can also just order more beer and pizza.
