BA of the Week: Intern Li Chen

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Every week we feature a different person from the community shedding a little light on their life of brokeitude. Who knows, maybe you’ll learn something about the human spirit — probably not.

Wanna be a Broke-Ass of the Week? Holler at us here and we’ll send you the questionnaire.

Li-chen

Li Chen is a recent grad that supported her summer trips to Europe and China working at fast food restaurants and retailers. One of her favorite lyrics is, “Life is not a process but a beautiful journey.” She currently interns at Vimbly, an activity booking company that also believes experiences are more valuable than possessions. She is new to the city so if you see a 5’3” short hair gal looking confused near 5th Ave, just kindly point out directions for her. Thanks! Read below for some insight into her life of brokeitude.

Name: Li Chen (not a fungus according to Wikipedia)

What neighborhood do you live in?: Bronx Monday through Thursday, Long Island Friday through Sunday.

Best money saving tip: Rip all coupons (unless it’s for BJs) because coupons make you spend MORE money.

What do you refuse to spend money on?: Parking. Growing up in New Jersey and later moving to Long Island, there’s no such thing as paying for parking.

Most expensive thing you’ve ever bought: College textbooks for 4 years.

How’d that feel?: I tell myself it’s an investment…anybody want Business Statistics (it’s like new)?

Favorite cheap eat: Lunch boxes at Woorijip in K-Town.

Best deal you’ve ever gotten: Free organic coffee and tea at WeWork

Favorite free thing to do: Observe crazy people on the subway for inspiration to write my next article.

If you woke up a millionaire, what’s the first thing you’d buy?: Buy micro apartments in New York City so I can retire and collect rent.

Despite not having money, do you still love your life?: Of course, I can’t take money to my grave…what’s more important is my passion for life (and my job).

Do you own my book?: Not yet. Can I get a discount? Pretty please~~~

Best hangover cure: Bean sprout soup according to Korean dramas.

Are you a hipster?: Wait, like hipster jeans from AE..? I prefer skinny or straight jeans (no, I am not a hipster).
