Fin-tastic Photos from the 2016 Mermaid Parade in Coney Island
Founded by Dick D. Zigun (pictured below), the Mermaid Parade has been a Coney Island institution since 1983. A self-proclaimed celebration of “ancient mythology” and the “honky-tonk rituals of the seaside,” it embodies everything we love about Brooklyn’s historic entertainment district: iridescent chaos, schmaltzy charm and of course, shameless nudity.
This year’s parade featured Queen Mermaid Hailey Clauson (from Sports Illustrated magazine) and King Neptune Carlo A. Scissura (from Old White Dude magazine, one assumes) both pictured below. Also featured below: a sea witch, a seahorse, American pride, gay pride, another dick and, of course, partially (and not-so-partially) obscured breasts. Enjoy!
