You know the saying that every cloud has a silver lining? I mean, unless Trump is president, in which case we’re all fucked? Since Republicans were somehow hypnotized by Trump’s rhetoric and allowed Trump to be their candidate, it’s been nothing but an onslaught and a descent into darkness. It’s as if for their final act, Ringling Brothers decided to collect all the shit from all the animals and use it to blast the entire country leaving the red state rejects to roll in it happily while the rest of us struggle to shovel out a path to sanity.
But, the upside to a political shit show is that historically speaking: We get our best activism and art in these dark times.
And oh, and what a show it’s been. The invisible crowds, the asinine cabinet appointments, the sound bites that might as well be labeled “Bellevue patient intake interview” and the signs! Oh God, the signs! The only way we have a shot at getting through this waking nightmare is by banding together and supporting each other. And as my mother would say, you have to laugh to keep from crying, and the signs, and posters, that have sprung forth on a seemingly hourly basis have indeed provided us with therapeutic laughter.
