Ever almost been hit by a car like this Shutterstock lady? I have, and it sucks.
San Francisco’s twentieth pedestrian fatality this year occurred early Sunday evening in the city’s Ingleside neighborhood.
Authorities offered limited information, describing the deceased as an older woman. A driver hit the woman at the intersection of Ocean & Ashton Avenues, then promptly sped away. The victim suffered a fatal head injury and died at the scene. Police were summoned at 6:44 PM.
SFPD in pursuit of suspect
A “person of interest” emerged in what the San Francisco Police Department is officially calling a hit-and-run. Officers caught up to them on the 500 block of Shields Street, roughly a mile from the scene. The Chronicle reports that police intercepted a vehicle “near Brooks Park, where they detained a person ‘for further investigation.’”
Update: Arrest made
The “person of interest” in Sunday night’s hit-and-run has graduated to “suspect.” Police officially arrested the suspect shortly after detaining them. SFPD is urging any potential witnesses to call (415) 575-4444 or text TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD. The investigation is ongoing.
