First Thursdays = Free Wine & Cheese

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

mmmm...tastes like free...

The first Thursday of the month in San Francisco generally means one thing, art openings.  And art openings generally mean two things, free wine and free cheese.  Being, well…being me, I simply can’t resist a place that will let me eat and drink for free while looking at pretty girls and neat shit on the walls.  The only problem with art openings is that a lot of art is utter crap.  I know you know what I’m talking about.  Don’t give me that, “It’s all perspective” bullshit, we both know there’s a lot of crap out there masquerading as art.  That’s why I was so stoked when I went to the Design Guild Gallery last night and saw Alexander Warnow’s photo exhibit I Love You Because…

Basically, he asked like 30 different people to complete the phrase “I love you because…” and then worked with them to transfer that sentiment into a photograph.  The photo above was created from the way a woman named Becki feels about her partner Greg.  They are both featured in the photo (at least part of them is).  If you wanna see the pics up close, get to the gallery before Valentine’s Day.  And if the exhibit gets you a little choked up, you can just be like, “Nah, dude.  I just got some shit in my eye”.
