FREE Beer and Sangria at Sunday's Backyard Gallery in the Mission

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

By the nature of our strange little micro-climate, San Francisco is not really an “outside” city.  Forecasters have all but given up on accurately predicting the each day’s weather, and every time you leave the house you must bring at least a couple layers, just in case.  That’s why when the weather actually is nice, people here truly appreciate it.  But the truth of the matter is: we never know when those nice days are gonna come.

That’s why I applaud the lovely ladies who are putting on Sunday’s Backyard Gallery.  The sheer optimism of planning a June outdoor event in San Francisco (June is one of our gloomiest months), gives me hope that the glass really is half full after all.  That’s metaphorically speaking of course because, with FREE beer and sangria, there’s not gonna be any drops left in my glass.  Here’s the officail press release:

Hidden in the Mission District at 349 South Van Ness Apartment 3, the Backyard Gallery is an intimate space designed to introduce the fresh faces of the San Francisco art scene.  The artists featured will be Betsey Johnson, Leonardo Ibarra, Mike Cohen, Frank Harmon, Maggie Mae Percell, Kyle Lee, Evan Wilson, Drew Fehlman, Andres Guerrero and Charlene Kelley.  The show “SF Happenings” has no specific theme, it rather enjoys the freedom of displaying innovative paintings and photography dealing with the here and now.  The works will be on exhibit and available Sunday, June 7th 11am to 8pm for purchase under $300 dollars (cash only, please). For serious collectors please contact the owners and curators of the exhibit, art historians, Janel Morales and Tyler Goss at sfbackyardgallery@gmail.com for the preview date and time.

My advice?  Bring a scarf.
