$3 Tacos and Chilidog- Tuesdays at the Triple Crown
It’s a shame that more bars don’t have some sort of food beyond pretzels and potato chips. Apparently, once upon a time all bars had to have some form of food (like the scary, electric purple, yet satisfying pickled egg) to have a license and most other countries have similar setups (pub, cantina, etc.) It makes sense. Snacks provide sustenance whether it be just an afternoon beer or a long hard night in it to win it. Not only that, but a sandwich or a slice of pizza can make the difference between a happy buzz and something reminiscent of the Lost Weekend.
Newish nightclub/café Triple Crown (formerly Octavia Lounge) agrees and offers some variation of grub on most afternoons and evenings.
Tuesday’s a good day to check it out when they have their $3 taco special (used to be $2…boo!) By no means authentic in the traditional sense, they’re pretty tasty and although $3 is kinda high for a taco, it saves you the hassle of going to a taqueria.
The ingredients are good quality too with the usual offerings of pork, chicken, or carne asada but with garnishes like pickled onions or guacamole with cotija. They also have veg options like potato poblano hash or mushroom and white bean, although you might want to skip that last one.
They serve food until 9:30, so if you’re there late, just grab another drink and trip the light fantastic to the disco jockeying of the inimitable Stanley Frank and tender warmth of his partner in crime, Stephen You Guys at their weekly, sweaty-dance-floor-fantasia, Chilidog.
