FREE Fernet plus San Franpsycho on Thursday

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Fernet-Branca is a weird thing.  It’s wildly popular here in San Francisco, and more or less the national drink of Argentina.  Plus I’m pretty sure they drink it in Italy…but that’s it.  I’ve never seen it anywhere else.  In fact, my buddies were at the Lone Palm a few years ago and David Cross happened to be in the bar. They  ended up buying him a shot of Fernet because he’d never had it before.  I think he said it tasted like cough medicine and asshole.  I always imagined the taste of sizzurp and stinkhole to be a delicacy of southern prisons.

But for those of us who’ve spent any amount of time drinking in SF we know that Fernet is an acquired taste and one usually doesn’t start acquiring it until about half way through the night.  Lucky the fine fellas from San Franpsycho have realized this too and teamed up with the digestif company to bring you FREE shots at Midnight on Thursday (Midnight meaning the cusp of Thursday and Friday).  This all goes down at The Columbus Cafe.

For those unfamiliar with San Franpsycho, they’re the guys who you always see doing the live screen printing at events like The Indie Mart and at my Fuck the Recession Party.  Their shit is awesome!  I wear one of their shirts all the frigging time.

So if you heading to North Beach on Thursday, bring a shirt you want to get screen printed and be ready for some DJs and FREE Fernet.  Plus I think the bar is opening it’s downstairs for the night.  I’m told this is a big deal, but I don’t know why.  Rejoice for the downstairs and don’t forget your ginger back!!
