Save Dolores Park – Public Forum Meeting Tomorrow!
I don’t think anyone loves Dolores Park more than the folks over here at BrokeAssStuart.com. A staple topic since the website’s birth, Stuart continues to eulogize the park about four times a week. Ok fine, really only twice a week. But the point is, with the park’s infinite perks and features, we rarely run out of ways to wax poetic, which is why our 3-part Dolores Park Etiquette guide (I, II, III) got so much love (check those comments!). Just last week, in the middle of a rainy winter, Stuart lauded the park as the 'œbest place ever.' And there are about a million devoted Dolo Park fans who would agree. Well, 1,265 fans to be exact.
Thus, it was pandemonium when rumors erupted a few weeks ago about a possible yearlong closure of the beloved park. The general response has been something along the lines of: 'œrenovation shmenovation, we like the park just how it is!' If you missed the dramatic saga, I wrote all about it at the Bay Guardian the other day. If you want to take a stand and save the Mission gem, joining the facebook page isn’t going to be enough. Catching on to just how much hell will be raised if the park indeed gets closed down, the Parks Department is hosting the first public forum about the Dolores Park renovations.
I’ve never been to one of these public forums but I’m imagining ways to make it epic, so put on your business face, pound your fists if you have to, try yelling 'œYou want the truth? You can’t handle the truth!' and maybe stage a hunger strike. Whatever it takes.
