Dollar Dogs and More Dogs This Weekend at Golden Gate Fields
Events centered on canines always strike me as ludicrous, though, I’m not particularly fond of man’s 'œbest' friend I grant you. Unless, it was Goliath, of course, who seemed like an all right pup. Then again, he could talk and give you advice.
Anyway, if you like observing owners frothing at the bit over their hapless charges, make sure you pencil in a trip to Golden Gate Fields this Saturday so you can take in the sure-to-be-riveting, Wiener Nationals.
Instead of horseflesh you’ll see hot dogs, racing their miniscule legs off for a prize of $1,000, which is probably a lifetime’s worth of pig ears. Not surprisingly, the race is sponsored by Der Wienerschnitzel.
Speaking of all this pork, although their will be no free hot dogs (really, Wienerschnitzel??) on Saturday, don’t forget that every Sunday is dollar day at the track, which means $1 for admission, hot dogs and beer! It’s a hell of a lot better than the home loan you’ll take out for game day at AT&T Park, if not slightly less glamorous. It is the track after all.
