Bringing back the beehive
The newest addition to Berkeley’s already abundant series of farmers markets is the Beehive Market, a market with seemingly younger, hipper, and better-looking patrons. But this is how most Bay Area food events seem to be evolving. It used to be the scruffy, bearded old-timers buying and selling kale, but now its the scruffy, bearded people I went to college with. This ageist trend makes it much more likely you’ll find a date, or at least buy dates from someone super good-looking. Pun!
With live bands, and an impressive list of produce, food, clothing, plants, household, transportation, home improvement, and even adopt-a-bunny vendors, the relatively new self-proclaimed “green lifestyle market” is making a name for itself.
Their website outlines a standard day at the market: “Buy locally made sustainable sun screen, snack on raw vegan bars with local roasted organic coffee, while you shop for rainwater catchment systems. Leave with organic peaches and a free wheelbarrow of compost, while thinking about possible names for your new rescue bunny. Come listen to speakers on your favorite environmental topics, check out local bands, and mingle with the neighbors. Who’s 'œthat girl' sporting the wicked cute hairdo?”
You Are Plural!
This week’s live music is provided by Berkeley’s own David Berkeley (is that really his name?). And next week features an amazingly awesome new band called You Are Plural, with the lovely Jen Grady on cello and Ephriam Nagler on wurlitzer. Wurlie, cello, and haunting vocals?
