Christmas Comes Early to SF with Saturday's SantaCon 2010!

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Don't be a puke-in-the-alley Santa. Nobody likes him.

While it’s been pretty much confirmed that San Francisco’s Indian summer is over (which makes total sense because apparently now it’s December — where did 2010 go??), on the bright side, we’re SO CLOSE to Christmas!  This also means SantaCon 2010 is almost here, that joyous day on which legions of regular people don Santa-inspired apparel and flood the streets with holiday cheer.  And alcohol.  Any excuse to dress up and drink, right?

This Saturday, the SF SantaCon festivities begin in Civic Center at 12:30pm.  From there, it’s up to you — there’s a host of Santa-friendly bars in on the action (which you can find here) from Polk Street to the Castro and after-parties at Space Gallery, Triple Crown, DNA Lounge and Retox Lounge.  If you make it to those after drinking all day, you win.

Santa costumes are obviously highly encouraged, but if you’re really strapped, a $3 Santa hat from Walgreens should be good enough.  Check out Kiley’s post from last year about dressing for SantaCon as a broke-ass — it’s an awesome guide if you want to do a little more than just the hat but don’t want to spend tons of money.  And ladies, if planning to attend as Slutty Santa, be very careful — no one wants herpes in their stockings.

Christy Jovanelly - Cheapskate Commentator

When Christy announced she was leaving her family's Southern California home and moving to San Francisco, her mom said, "Have fun in that den of sin." This is the only (however sarcastic) advice Christy has ever taken from her mom, who also told her to join eharmony.com and cover her eyes during sex scenes in movies. Christy puts her creative writing degree to good use by locating the typos on Chinese food menus and spends most of her time challenging friends to all-you-can-eat contests and trying to get that one bartender at Zeitgeist to smile.
