Hellenic- American Greek Imports (a.ka. My Big Fat Greek Store) will be closing its doors forever as soon as they sell their last wares plus the paint off the walls probably.

The Mission Street institution has been selling goods to the once-immense local Greek community for over seventy years and will join the ranks of old Mission mainstays that no longer could stem the tide of sky-rocketing rents and disappearing communities. Alas, even their hip, latter day moniker couldn’t put off the end.

So if you are in the market for jumbo jars of taromosalata, censers, crosses, enormously endowed statues of satyrs, or even the refrigerator cases and shelving units, do drop in at Hellenic-American before it joins its neighbour, the El Capitàn, in the pantheon of Mission ghosts from the past.
