Kick-Ass Art at Grand Opening of North Beach Gallery 454 Tonight
I always seem to be pushing art openings and sometimes can’t decide if that’s due to the expectation of FREE bubbly and snacks or because the work to be shown is supposed to be cool. I’d like to think it’s both, but who am I kidding? I’m a scavenger who will shamelessly lie to the good employees of Costco and say I’m buying alcohol (which you don’t need a membership to procure), thus gaining entrance into a world of FREE food samples and a very satisfied gut.
While it’s true that “BANG,” the grand opening of Gallery 454 in North Beach, will offer the customary FREE refreshments, music and inexplicably attractive creative folk, I’m heading out because I know for a fact that the art featured is going to be AMAZING. There’ll be new works by both established and emerging Bay Area artists at this shindig, but a highlight will undoubtedly be the pieces by Maurice Sampson, an artist (not to mention super chill guy with an equally chill fashion-blogger girlfriend) that I’ve had the pleasure of knowing in the city. I’m always inspired and surprised — in a good way — by his stuff, and isn’t that what art’s all about?
But hey, I won’t judge if you choose to attend based solely on the FREE drinks factor. You might just leave with a $500 oil painting and a throng of people chasing after you because, of course, you stole it.
