Wednesday Nights at The Cellar = The Cheapest Way to Get Smashed

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Remember, cheap drinks are worth a lame crowd.

Today I was feeling nostalgic for the good old days when I first moved to San Francisco and would go to the Bar on Castro’s Monday $.80 drink night, like, every week (the perks of working from home, right?!).  Since then, the Bar on Castro has moved to Church & Market, is now appropriately dubbed The Bar on Church, and still offers some awesome deals like $.50 PBRs on Saturday from 4pm – 8pm.

But what if I have a New Year’s resolution which includes only drinking extremely cheap vodka soda with lemon in order to avoid that nasty bloated feeling that will inevitably arrive after 20 PBRs (which, obviously, is how many I will drink if they’re only $.50)?  With The Cellar‘s Wednesday night happy hour, which runs from 5pm – 2am and features $2 mixed cocktails, I can go in with a $20 bill, keep my resolution, get hammered, and have tons of money leftover for a drunken burrito.  Now, being that The Cellar is in Union Square and is categorized as a dance club/lounge, the crowd doesn’t exactly float my boat, but let’s be honest — after a few drinks, I won’t be able to see anyone clearly anyway.  Also, I like the bathrooms at The Cellar, so if I accidentally drink more than I intend, it won’t be as shiteous an experience as if I was, say, at Zeitgeist or something.

When Christy announced she was leaving her family's Southern California home and moving to San Francisco, her mom said, "Have fun in that den of sin." This is the only (however sarcastic) advice Christy has ever taken from her mom, who also told her to join eharmony.com and cover her eyes during sex scenes in movies. Christy puts her creative writing degree to good use by locating the typos on Chinese food menus and spends most of her time challenging friends to all-you-can-eat contests and trying to get that one bartender at Zeitgeist to smile.
