Broke-Ass of the Week

Broke-Ass of the Week – Photographer Alyssa Jones

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Every week we feature a different person from the community shedding a little light on their life of brokeitude.  Who knows, maybe you’ll learn something about the human spirit'probably not.

Wanna be a Broke-Ass of the Week?  Holler at us here and we’ll send you the questionnaire.

Alyssa is one of those people I’ve developed a hilarious twitter relationship with.  That’s mainly because she’s just as crass and foul mouthed as I am, and we end up devolving into tweets about rug-munching and waxing.  She’s also sworn to me that she’s the president of my lesbian fan club.  Looks like I can mark “having a lesbian fan club” off my bucket list.

When I asked Alyssa if there was anything she wanted me to include in this intro she said, “Um perhaps, that I’m a photographer, the kind with a website: iknowalyssajones.com…and maybe that I do porn photography, sometimes people find that interesting.”

I do find that interesting indeed!  Should you too want to start a hilarious twitter relationship with Alyssa Jones, here’s her page. Now read what she has to say about being a broke-ass.

Name: Alyssa Jones

Age: 24

Occupation: Photographer/Coffee slave

What neighborhood do you live in?: Nob Hill

What are you listening to these days?: Hm. Probably the same shit I was after high school, I’m not one of those people who spends a lot of time searching for new music. And this means that, yes, I have shitty taste in music.

Best money saving tip: Eating your roommates food, stealing from work, anorexia, and asking for gift cards to practical places for your birthday.

What do you refuse to spend money on?: Music, sex, and coffee.

Most expensive thing you’ve ever bought: I’d have to say my camera, $2,300.

How’d that feel?: I felt like a baller who just made it rain all over Best Buy.

Favorite cheap eat: Of course burritos. What half-Mexican-San Franciscan can say no to cheap burritos?

Favorite dive bar: The Cinch.

Best deal you’ve ever gotten: That’s a tough one, I went to Rescue Mission Thrift a few weeks ago and they had a lot of good cheap shit. Although the $5 blankets sold in all the tourist spots in Mexico are a pretty good deal as well.

Favorite free thing to do: MOMA, when it’s free. Or sometimes my girlfriend gets coupons (from the guy who owns Tortilla Heights on Divisadero) for FREE margaritas, or at least ONE free margarita.

If you woke up a millionaire, what’s the first thing you’d buy?: A house. And maybe a roller rink, because there aren’t any in SF.

Despite not having money, do you still love your life?: hm'.fuck yes.

Do you own my book?: Yes. The San Francisco one. My first SF roommate gave it to me when I moved here.

Best hangover cure: Greasy breakfast food.

Are you a hipster?: Depends on if I’m wearing my cardigan, cutoff jean shorts, oversized glasses, and v-neck'oh AND it depends on if you can see all my really horribly done ironic tattoos.
