Party at Wesley Stace's Book Release Extravaganza This Sunday!

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Example of a good book jacket photo!

Hot off the heels of Monica’s post yesterday about the Bay Area Book Expo, which reminded us that inevitably, but hopefully not in our lifetime, “the printed book will mutate into something that will eventually cease to be” (Monica channeling Ray Bradbury!) comes today’s post assuring us that for now, hard copy books are still around and there are still crazy rad release parties for them, courtesy of our pals at The Rumpus!

This Sunday at Amnesia, celebrate Wesley Stace’s (aka singer/songwriter John Wesley Harding) new “intellectual thriller,” Charles Jessold, Considered as a Murderer. I feel like the genre name and book title alone make this worth checking out, but if you’re not as easily amused as me, consider the fact that if you head here and enter the code “JWH” at checkout, you’ll get 5 bucks off your ticket, making it only $10.  Entry also includes a copy of the book so that you can get it signed by the author and then flip it for a profit on eBay.  Or read it, whatever.

Still not impressed?  I’ll keep going.  The event is hosted by Stephen Elliott (The Adderall Diaries) and will kick your ass with the comedic stylings of Nato Green, live music by John Wesley Harding (duh) and Tiny Television, and readings by Daniel Handler, Lisa Brown and Steve Almond.  Clearly this is more of a literary/music/all-things-cool world orgy than book release party.  Which makes it 1,000 percent more appealing, right?

Release Party for Wesley Stace’s Charles Jessold, Considered as a Murderer at Amnesia Sunday, February 27, 7pm 853 Valencia St. (btwn 2oth & Cunningham) [Mission] $10 presale tix with promo code “JWH”

Christy Jovanelly - Cheapskate Commentator

When Christy announced she was leaving her family's Southern California home and moving to San Francisco, her mom said, "Have fun in that den of sin." This is the only (however sarcastic) advice Christy has ever taken from her mom, who also told her to join eharmony.com and cover her eyes during sex scenes in movies. Christy puts her creative writing degree to good use by locating the typos on Chinese food menus and spends most of her time challenging friends to all-you-can-eat contests and trying to get that one bartender at Zeitgeist to smile.
