FREE Standup Comedy Every Tuesday at The Layover

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

If you ever wanted to try your hand at heckling, here’s your chance. Every Tuesday night, The Layover in Downtown Oakland hosts a FREE standup comedy show that will surely evoke some kind of emotion.

If I had to describe The Layover in one sentence, I’d say, “It looks like a hookah bar in your mom’s basement.” It’s got a very loungey vibe, with billowy fabric hanging from the ceiling and ultra low lighting. Yet, the worn couch cushions and yellow corduroy lazy boy hearken back to my teenage years (or perhaps I’ve been watching too much That 70s Show). Either way, it’s comfy.

The show I saw offered seven different comedians, each with their own distinct styles. Whether you like fat jokes, raunchy sex jokes, or jokes delivered by a middle-aged stoner, The Layover’s got something for you. And if you hate any one of those kinds of jokes, don’t fret; each set only lasts for ten minutes. Besides, happy hour begins at 5pm and ends at 8pm, so you might be too drunk to care.

But seriously, don’t heckle the comedians.

Mia Di Pasquale - Scroungy Scribbler

Mia is a nice Italian girl from an exotic Italian colony called New Jersey.  She studied English Literature and Screenwriting at Drexel University in Philadelphia and has no intention of ever being a teacher.  Instead, she produces low-budget films with her crew/friends, one of which actually won a contest hosted by AMC and judged by Mr. Robert (Rob) Zombie.  She currently lives and loves in beautiful Oakland, California, which, she maintains, is just as great as and even sunnier than San Francisco.
