Midnight Mystery Bike Ride: SATURDAY!
One of the things that’s great about Bike Party is that you can ride as a seven-year old fresh off training wheels, a seasoned cyclist, or as a mid-twenties layabout spilling Jameson all over your messenger bag while flailing at a Dolores Park party stop. It’s pretty inclusive, and while some go for getting wasted and trying to lie down in a street puddle (if this were firsthand experience I wouldn’t remember it so well, right?) others play it a little safer.
If you’re of the wilder persuasion, looking for a wild ride and accompanying wild riders, the San Francisco Midnight Mystery Ride, a monthly occurrence that seems to have issued a gag order on previous participants (seriously, there’s pretty much nothing on the internet about it), could well be your ticket.
I’ve never done it and don’t any who have, but then again, the thing is so damn mysterious it’s hard to get anything out of anyone. Check the group’s Facebook page or blog the day of the ride (the soonest one is Saturday, November 19th). The accounts I’ve come across emphasize the ride’s tolerance – nay, appreciation – of shared alcohol and treats, and this month’s edition is a “blowout.” Meaning: bring that Jameson, warm blankies, camera, and (mysteriously) saki or tea.
Riders tend to meet at a bar around 11:30 p.m. to down a shot or two and head out into the night – again, check that website.
