Love Me, Love My Poncho Fashion Show
Ponchos: the wave of the future? Hardly. Nevertheless, the comfy paunch-concealers hold a loyal and devoted following spanning some pretty disparate groups: stoners, moms, racially insensitive restaurant mascots. They’re pretty much the original Snuggie – a little more abrasive, perhaps, and shorter, but cut from the same proverbial cloth – and, now that I Google it, a poncho Snuggie actually exists. Someone beat me to the punch. Oh.
For those of you with one or four of these bloat-disguising, lounge-encouraging wonders in your closet or at least a well-patterned blanket on your bed that you can cut a hole in the middle of, your day has come. Dolores Park holds a poncho fashion show and swap on Sunday at 2 p.m. (registration starts at 1:45). Love Me, Love My Poncho features poncho-appreciative photographers and a real catwalk with only one caveat to potential models: no shawls.
