Pop Into Pop’s Bar on 24th

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

If you’re looking for a dark, divey, corner bar in the Outer Mission – pop into Pop’s Bar on 24th and Bryant. This small bar is a great place to grab some stiff cocktails or shitty beer and shot combo specials. A red strip and a shot of tequila goes for $9, and a PBR tall boy and a shot of my fave Fernet cost only $8. They have a good selection of beer on tap, a pool table, a jukebox, video games and a photo booth.

I was there last week and we sat in the corner booth by the window, where we used the Pac Man machine as a table. The windows got all steamy because it was raining outside and it was pretty crowded. The bathroom was pretty gross – but whatever, it worked at least. The entertainment selection just before I left made up for it – Dazed and Confused playing on the TV above the bar with Sonic Youth’s 100% blasting over it. Pop’s serves pretty much a young, hipster crowd – but it’s a fun place to pop in for a drink or two on your way to bigger and better things.
