Broke-Ass Birthday

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

This is probably the most egotistical post I’ve ever written – but since today is my birthday, I don’t really care. My Jesus year is officially over – I didn’t end up crucified, but i did just turn the page to the 34th year of my life. That is almost too weird to fathom. Remember when you were a kid and the thought of being 30 was pretty much like the end of the world? Shiiiiit. Well listen, it’s not. Being in my 30’s has been an eye-opening experience, not to mention awesome. That’s probably because i still act like I’m 24 – but at least I still know how to have fun.

Anyways, the point of my post is that I realized last night how much FREE shit you get when it’s your birthday! My friends took me out to the Boom Boom Room last night to ring in my big day. I didn’t spend a dime. I got in for FREE, I got shots bought for me and beers were literally shoved down my throat. The funk band even sang Happy Birthday to me!

I managed to wake up for work on time, well close enough. I’ll thank Bon Jovi for screaming in my ear through my clock radio for that. My friend bought me breakfast and coffee. My other friend is taking me out to lunch. I’m going out again tonight to go dancing – and I have a feeling I won’t have to spend a dime. Too bad for all those French people that are obliged to buy all of their friends drinks on their birthday. Hell no! Just a bit of advice – if you are broke and it’s your birthday, suck it up. Gifts aren’t all that important – but FREE shit is awesome! I am super thankful for all of the hook-ups. So much so, that I kind of want to get a fake ID and go out on the day that person’s birthday falls on just to get FREE drinks…
