Broke-Ass Stuart Proudly Sponsors the 2013 SF Mid-Winter Bar Workers Ball – FREE!
With every year in San Francisco comes one fog bank rolling in after the other, peppered with the occasional rainstorm or more often than not, that lovely little ice breeze that likes to momentarily stop your heart on it’s way through your body. And yet, seemingly as quickly as the mists depart, there they are- like neon toadstools (or perhaps these days, reclaimed wood and Edison bulb toadstools) a whole new crop of sauce buckets and palaces of gastronomic vainglory. The downside to this phenomena is that every year with all the new arrivals, we seem lose a few old friends, a few more jewels in the crown- The Gold Dust Lounge(wait…) and Deco are only a couple of casualties that come to mind.
The constant however are the brave and enterprising souls that make these places of mirth worth hanging out in. Barkeep, cocktailer, waiter, busboy, bouncer, dancer- you are the backbone of this drizzly playground and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
Having the falling arches, lime-stung cuts and blown out hearing that are but a few of the perks of the service industry, we well-understand the need for the occasional holiday. Which is why we once again proudly bring thee United In Nightlife: The San Francisco Mid-Winter Bar Workers Ball!!
Yes, my friends, it’s that time of year again. Just as those glacial winds start to pick up off Land’s End, it’s time to dust off your glad rags and hail a taxi down to the always fancy and always cool Café Du Nord and let our very generous co-sponsors 7×7 and DuNord take care of you with complimentary beverages and tastings provided by The House of Jim Beam and tasty canapés to delight the palate.
For your listening pleasure we are also proud to announce our all-star line up of album juggling talent including Sonny Phono (Rock the Spot Wednesdays), Bus Station John (Tubesteak Connection, Love Will Fix It), and Sergio Fedasz (Go Bang!, KALX). Quite possibly one of our most decadent dance floors to date, so leave the orthopedics at home!
AND, as is ball tradition, there will be the CONTESTS. Yes, oh worthy colleagues, you will have the opportunity to prove your wits, skill and strength on not one but three occasions. If you fancy yourself matchless in your handiwork with shaker can and bar spoon, this is not an event to be missed. Your merit will be judged by our celebrity guest panel of Katy St. Clair (SF Weekly), Marke Bieschke (SFBG), Lou Bustamante (7×7) and our dear captain, Broke-Ass Stuart.
Wish you were here!
To come all you need do is RSVP on our eventbrite or if that makes you feel the commitment-phobe heebiejeebies, simply show up at the door with your paycheck-stub, wine key, bottle opener, or whatever you feel proves your cred!
$5 for all non-industry folk which will benefit night life advocates The California Music and Culture Association.
