Win Tix to Death, Love & Life: A Chamber Hip-Hop Opera
This sounds like a pretty incredible event and I don’t think I’ve witnessed anything like it. I’ve pasted many of the details from the press release below:
Death, Love & Life chronicles the suffering and joy of ordinary people and the possibility of achieving transcendence from the mundane life. The piece begins with the death of a loved one and goes on to various human experiences that define who we are.
Stemming from the previous singles, Without Goodbyes (death), This Is Why (love), & The First Song (life), Death, Love & Life also portrays hope in the most impossible situations (Hope Springs Eternal, from Alexander Pope’s An Essay on Man), the indomitable spirit in the face of life’s struggles (We Will Conquer) and the transformation of our souls which occurs as the result of these battles (Morning Light).
Ensemble Mik Nawooj “defies such categories as jazz, classical, and hip-hop” (Oakland Tribune), is “ambitious” (The New Yorker), and “breaks established boundaries between genres and styles” (SF Examiner). MTV praised it by saying “Mik Nawooj is thirsty to change the name of the game”.
This is happening on Saturday at Brick & Mortar in SF. I’ve got three pairs of tickets to giveaway so there’s a good chance you can win. For more details about the show go here.
