What would you do if you didn’t have to work?

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

We at Broke-Ass Stuart are always keeping our eyes open for weird and wonderful things in the Bay Area.  This city’s mystique was built and maintained by cultural outliers, by innovative artist and engineers, and by new and strange ideas.  The idea of a universal basic income isn’t new to the world, but it certainly is a foreign concept to most Americans.  The idea that you could spend your time doing anything you wanted, because your basic income was taken care of.

If you’d like to explore the idea, with a social experiment that is both an SF throwback and a workshop in one, read on.

In 1967, the hippies held a “Human Be-In” in Golden Gate Park, where they showed up and just existed, they were who they were.  Ever since then, personal empowerment and the rights of people to exist as they are, not having to conform to arbitrary standards, have made great strides in the world.

50 years later, we’re taking the next step, going where the hippies never could:  a Human Do-In.

What’s a “do-in”?  It’s simple.  Imagine:  what if your rent were paid for?  If you didn’t have to work to pay your bills, unless you wanted to?  If all your needs were taken care of – what would you do?

What would you do, if you could do anything you wanted?

Come to Civic Center this Saturday and do that with us.  Whatever it is.  Painting, dancing, yoga, sports, reading, teaching, building, making, gifting – whatever you most want to do in this world.  Whatever you would be doing if money were no object and your time was all yours.

Come and do it with us, together, and maybe in another 50 years everyone will have the ability to follow their passions, and spend their lives doing what they find most meaningful.

Or maybe you’ll just have an amazing afternoon, doing something you love, together with people doing what they love.  Sounds good, right?
