Big Chef Tom’s Belly Burgers is Closing
I popped into Big Chef Tom’s Belly Burgers yesterday to grab some lunch and found out the sad new. BCTBB will be permanently closing on December 31st.
When I asked if it was because of lack of business or if the landlord had raised the price, the guy behind the counter said it was actually because Tom Pizzica, aka Big Chef Tom, was moving with his family to Pennsylvania. Either he or his wife or both had family there and it would be easier to raise their family.
Big Chef Tom’s Belly Burgers was renowned because it was the only place in SF where you could get a burger made out of 100% pork belly. It was also absolutely fucking delicious. I’d have runs where I’d eat there twice a week.
Pizzica opened the place in 2014 after doing the pork belly burger thing as a popup. Previously he’d a runner up on show Food Network Star and he’d been the host of Outrageous Food.
So long Tom! I hope Pennsylvania treats you well!
