Oakland is First City to Decriminalize Peyote, DMT and Most Other Psychedelics
When word broke in June that Oakland had become the second city in America to decriminalize magic mushrooms, there was one major bit of news that was overlooked by most people: Oakland was the first city in America to decriminalize nearly ALL psychedelics!
That’s right, as Tryp Journal reported back in July, “On June 4, 2019, Oakland City Council voted to decriminalize the possession and use of all entheogenic plants. This included magic mushrooms (psilocybin), ayahuasca (DMT), peyote and san pedro (mescaline), and iboga (ibogaine).”
Somehow people were so excited that they didn’t have to worry about getting prosecuted for ‘shrooms, that they didn’t notice all these other mind-altering substances were now also decriminalized.
As Nevin Long reported on BrokeAssStuart.com, this does not mean these substances are legal. It means that “Oakland police would simply ignore their use and possession. The liberalization of how laws concerning plant-based psychedelics are enforced would not, however, extend to their sale.”
So next time you’re getting weird as fuck out in Oakland, getting popped by the police is one less thing you have to worry about. The fact that you might feel like you’re in bat country might be a different story though.
