The Butler & the Chef Is Closing

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

The Butler & the Chef, a French bistro and long-time fixture of SOMA’s South Park, will be shutting its doors in the new year. The restaurant, which offers breakfast and lunch, will be open until December 31st, 2017, but will not reopen in 2018.

Owner and chef Joel Martin made this decision based on the rising rent costs of the neighborhood and a desire to move back home to the South of France sometime in the next year to enjoy the “better lifestyle.” He tried to sell the restaurant, but unfortunately there were no interested parties.

You’re quickly running out of your chances to eat fluffy pain perdu the size of a novel, the best quiche in SOMA, tangy buckwheat crepes, and amazing French sandwiches and salads, so go while you still can. The Butler & the Chef is one of those restaurants where you open the menu and your heart starts breaking a little because everything is so good, but there’s only so much food one person can reasonably order. Even if you’re first time going to the restaurant ends up being your last time, it’s worth a visit.

155A S Park St, San Francisco, CA 94107  (SOMA)
