SUPPORT GUN CONTROL AND PARTY AT THE SAME TIME!

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

By Neil Raymond

How would you like to pledge your support for gun control AND be at a kick-ass concert at the same time?! I’m talking about Party to Protect Our Lives at Littlefield in Gowanus on June 16th (doors open at 7 PM). They’re going to donate 100% of the proceeds to Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense (a division of Everytown for Gun Safety). I know what you’re thinking, who are Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense? Well, they’re an activist group that’s basically mothers who are against gun violence. They’ve been around for 5 years and achieved some remarkable things. For example, on September 18, 2013 they successfully pressured Starbucks to ban customers from bringing guns to their stores. On July 2, 2014 they accomplished the same thing with Target. They’re working daily on fighting against gun violence and could use a little help for all their hard work. Party to Protect Our Lives is pretty impressive too, this is their third benefit and they recently generated $12,300 for Planned Parenthood.

What can you expect at the event? Four musical acts are going to perform. These acts are Elliott & The Ghost, Alexander F, Crazy Pills and FIELDED. Elliott & The Ghost are an alternative rock band and have been growing in popularity since their debut in 2013; Alexander F is an indie artist, whose latest album has been called “one of the most promising garage pop records of the new year”; Crazy Pills is a rock & roll band that has been active since 2010 and that’s growing in popularity and acclaim; FIELDED is a one-woman gospel act that is revolutionary in its exploring and dissecting of the pop archetype and narrative.

Party to Protect Our Lives is not just a concert though, there will also have a burlesque show featuring Bunny Buxom, Rhoda Dendron and Mina Minou. These are some of the hottest acts of the burlesque world, so their performances come highly recommended. As if that’s not enough, you can also get yourself a tattoo for under $60 from Adam Korothy or Michael Kwasnik, two of the most talented tattoo artists in the city. There’s also the on-site artist Hissy Fit. Tia Christiansen of Moms Demand Action will do a speech as well.

Party to Protect Our Lives is going to be a damn good event and you really shouldn’t miss out. It costs only $15 to get in (21+) and you get to see 4 musical acts, a burlesque show AND a chance to save on getting a high-quality tattoo.
