Rock out with this three-band showcase of live, loud rock-n-roll at everyone’s favorite dive bar! Doors open at 6:00 and the show starts at 8:00 – get there early for a good spot and a good buzz before the music starts!

The Nog: The KO describes this show as “HARDCORE MASSIZE NOIZE COZMIC DOOM,” which sounds like exactly what I’m gonna need after a Tuesday retail shift two weeks before Xmas. I’ll be there as soon as it starts – Bartender, I’ll need a shot of Jameson and a PBR chaser when I arrive, pleaseandthankyou.

Grace Cathedral Christmas Concerts

Christmas at Grace Cathedral is back in person in 2021! Since 1947, Christmas at Grace Cathedral has offered an ideal way to ring in the season, with magnificent music, a majestic setting and astonishing acoustics. This year there are four different concerts on offer: A Cathedral Christmas, Soulful Joy, A Brass and Organ Christmas, and Sing You a Merry Christmas. The Nog: Honestly I’m having a hard time choosing which of the four concerts to take my visiting family members too. Luckily, I know I can’t go wrong with any of them – which means maybe we should go to all of them!

 

Popscene Presents: Wet Leg

8:00 pm | Rickshaw Stop, 155 Fell Street | $16

Arming themselves with guitars, a penchant for French disco, effervescent imaginations and a shared love of the The Ronettes and Jane Birkin, through to Ty Segall and Bjork, this twosome form the Isle of Wight are here to fight for your right to pop-rock!

The Nog: See them tonight as the main event at Rickshaw stop, or check them out on Thursday night providing support for CHVRCHES at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, along with Donna Missal!

CBLS Collective Presents: MOTHERMARY

The Nog: CBLS is coming through all this month with weekly bangers – and I don’t know about you, but this time of year, a good show to reliably look forward to each week is like Rudolph’s red nose shining a light to the end of a tunnel… Bless ‘em.

Featuring works by more than 30 Bay Area fashion designers and brands, this combo showcase and market event will satisfy even the most hardcore fashionistas. Shop incredible couture pieces, meet the designers and mingle over cocktails and snacks, and incorporate your own art onto some of the one-of-a-kind pieces on offer.

The Nog: While this is obviously a great event for those of us who still need to stock up on gifts, it’s also a super cool way to familiarize yourself with local fashion brands and hometown artists who will appreciate your business way more than Marc Jacobs does.

Holiday Gaiety

All the Small Things: A Show of the Wonderfully Modest

This show of delightful, physically small artworks features work by artists living and working in the Bay Area. Celebrate the show’s opening with this festive gathering, which will include libations, merch, and cannabis culture collaborators.

The Nog: Why are miniature things so friggin exciting? And why are they so extra-exciting during THE HOLIDAZE? I have no idea, but I’ll never get over my sister’s ridiculously precious Alpine village Xmas figurines, or the wee dollhouse furniture and Hot Wheels cars we got from Santa as kids… And this show promises to give you all the same warm fuzzies!

 

The Shenanigans! A Live Circus Dinner Theatre Experience

6:00 pm | The Lama Shack Theatre, Secret Location, Oakland (location revealed after ticket purchase) | $65-300

Nikki Borodi Entertainment presents “The Shenanigans”: your favorite circus sitcom family! A dinner theater experience inspired by the nostalgic television family classics we all know and love (think Married with Children meets The Brady Bunch) What tricks will this wacky bunch have up their sleeves to ward off the dark and call in the light for this solstice celebration? Castro Winter Wonderland Street Party

This all-day party presented by the Castro Merchants has something for everyone of all ages. Bring the whole fam for photos with Santa, drag queen storytime, music, a petting zoo, more drag, and even a Sexy Elf contest!

The Nog: The first annual event of its kind, this neighborhood block party will showcase everything you love about the Castro, as well as everything you love about THE HOLIDAZE!

 

Christmas Jug Band

7:00 pm | Reel and Brand, 401 Grove Street | $15

For 40 years, the Christmas Jug Band has brought together some of the Bay Area’s most talented and beloved musicians for a yearly dose of tongue-in-cheek seasonal holiday hijinks, good cheer, and great music. The Christmas Jug Band will be playing all the favorites as well as their new single “Christmas on the Moon,” an all-acoustic send-up of the newfound elitist escapism mindset and blends Americana, roots-rock, gospel, Moog Theremin synth, rich acoustic violin, piano and more.

Lizzie Locker has been an artist, entertainer, and “glamour girl” since birth. Since 2017, Lizzie has been writing professionally for small businesses, as well as creatively. She has published essays in VIE Magazine, and has written website and social media content for pole dance studios, afterschool programs, and reference sites. At the same time, Lizzie has also continued to develop her performance career at queer nightlife events across the Bay Area. She can be found both onstage and off, reading her stories aloud in bars, emceeing drag and burlesque shows, and producing arts events that defy genre and expectation.
