The KQED & Noise Pop Block Party Looks Pretty Great
When two wonderful SF institutions get together to throw a block party your ears should perk up. KQED has teamed up with Noise Pop and is blocking off the streets in front of its storied SF headquarters and opening up its doors for an all-day, live music-infused, street festival with delicious local food vendors, legendary Bay Area talent, and of course, some of your favorite KQED journalists and personalities.
Yes that’s right, KQED Fest is here! If you’re like me and you grew up watching KQED programs and spent many nights at indy shows put on by Noise Pop, this is a great way to soak up some Bay Area nostalgia and see what’s new and current in Bay Area culture.
Not only will there be live performances by Lyrics Born and Tia Nomore, but there’s also live Forum with the revolutionary Boots Riley and Political Breakdown with beloved Sister Roma, and even All Thing Considered’s Ailsa Chang will be live on stage.
If you have kids (or just large children like me) who are interested in journalism, podcasting, or just media broadcasting in general, KQED is opening up its doors to everyone. You’ll be able to go behind the scenes, experience being on mic or on camera with KQED producers, try media-making workshops and take newsroom and studio tours.
Savor tasty local bites featured in KQED Food programs and series, like the Yucatan style tacos of Cochinata and the awesome cupcakes and ice cream creations by Filipino Fusion Bakery Marley’s Treats.
SF Zinefest, Precita Eyes, and Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts are hosting a street fair so you know they’ll have artful and thoughtful activities in the street, while you rub elbows with Bay Area tv personalities and your neighbors too.
