This Week’s Events

Tuesday, 4/25

Nikki Lane
4/25 | The Chapel | 777 Valencia St, SF | 8 pm | $25

From the first bass note within the driving drum beat you can tell something is different about the new record from Nikki Lane. The backbeat feels like a gutsy strut while the lead guitar feels like a revved up engine shifting gears. Denim & Diamonds comes out firing, spit shining the cowboy boots and tossing on a jean jacket.

Hannah & the Handsomes
4/25 | Amado’s | 998 Valencia St, SF | 7 pm | free

Hannah has been performing since middle school and she studied music theory. Overall, she looked for any musical situation, including busking in Europe in every town she visited. She did concerts living in Italy with guitarist Francesco Lesi. Hanna found Francesco cold calling a music school – She’d been asked to do a show after being seen busking in Italy. Francesco was great, and it all came together. Fast forward to San Francisco and Hanna used the same principle she had from the start: show up and go for it. She went out most nights to meet other musicians, try out stages and new song arrangements, and make mistakes. This is how we learn. The San Francisco Bay Area remains Hanna’s home, along with many other talented artists with whom she enjoys sharing the stage.

A loveable rat bastard who finds that his castle has become a refuge for peasants that are damned by a plague called the Red Death. Of course, this can only lead to torture, murder, and mod superstar Jane Asher running rampant through sets that look like they escaped from Mario Bava’s darkest nightmares. The Masque of the Red Death cuddles us with an intense wickedness while providing a backdrop for Price to scold, scoff, and gouge his way through one of the most iconic and unstoppable performances of his career. And the best part? They do it all for Satan.
