Women’s Pro Soccer is Back in the Bay!

by Vanessa Gil, Arts & Events Editor

Some of my fondest memories growing up was attending CyberRays games with my Uncle. Getting to watch legends like Brandi Chastain and Mia Hamm play in person. I miss those days, but I am excited because professional women’s soccer is BACK in San Jose with the inaugural season of Bay FC. Their first home game is this week and I look forward to a season of getting to see this generation’s legends play (that Gotham FC is stacked!). Soccer and all, here’s what I’m most excited about for the week of 3/26…

Kevin Gates
3/29 | The Regency Ballroom | 1300 Van Ness Ave, SF | 9 p.m. | $45

The Baton Rouge-bred artist is more concerned with being in alignment with his music and his purpose than he is with trying to please anybody. Monday, 4/1

Hurray for the Riff Raff w/ Sen Morimoto
4/1 | August Hall | 420 Mason St, SF | 8 p.m. | $26

Alynda Segarra, Hurray for the Riff Raff’s founder, has been something of a modern Huck Finn, an itinerant traveler whose adventures prompt art that reminds us there are always other ways to live. Their voyages have shaped an oral folklore of sorts, with the teenage vagabonding or subsequent trainhopping becoming what some may hear about Hurray for the Riff Raff before hearing the music itself.

zzzahara
3/31 | The Independent | 628 Divisadero St, SF | 8 p.m. | $20/advance, $25/door, 21+

Evolving stylistically, maturing emotionally, and yet still attached to a past scorched by trauma and old flames, zzzahara brings pop sensibility and hi-fi quality that makes their work appealing to anyone and everyone: young and old; straight and queer; introverts and extroverts; the hardened L.A. locals and the daydreaming transplants.
