No Joke, the Golden Mall is the Shit!
It’s in situations like this I wonder what the point of writing is. I mean, that gap between understanding and the words that I’m writing is so vass! I will attempt to be as detailed and as clear as possible, but I know that I will never be able express adequately the greatness of the Golden Mall in Flushing, Queens! A gem among gems to any foodie!
Let me get to the facts: The Golden Mall is basically Chinese cuisine heaven (it’s a food mall, and every stall has great food)! You cannot only get Zi’an Famous Foods (which is Zi’an’s original location), but you can also get a plethora of other wonderful foods and flavors from all over China. To list a few of the restaurants, you got the House of Xia (wood ear fungus, raw potatoes, marinated cucumber), Lanzhou Handmade noodle (hand pulled noodles), Lao Ma Ma La Tang (hot and numbing soup), and so much more… if you wanted to try all three of these places, you could and you’d spend less than $20.00. That’s how cheap it is!
The atmosphere is wonderful too, if you’re into feeling like you’re in another country. Honestly, once you pass the threshold into the Golden Mall, you feel as though you have just gone to China. Old men crossed-legged smoking cigarettes and reading chinese newspapers with bifocals, a hustle shoulder to shoulder constant motion running, everyone speaking a language you don’t understand (Mandarin), eyes eyes eyes… Plus, with all the authentic food it’s literally like you’ve teleported. It’s a beautiful thing!
So, if you feel like taking a trip, getting some great food, and simply seeing another side of NYC, take the 7 to Main St. and walk a couple blocks to the Golden Mall. It will be worth it.
