Haight Street Fair: A Broke-Ass Photo Wrap-Up

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Did you go to the Haight Street Fair yesterday? The weather was beautiful and it seems like those motherfuckers roped in the sun just right, making it the perfect summer day for a festival. If you didn’t check it out, you can get a glimpse through all of my pre-drunken photos…after this, it was a blur of 40’s…

50% off American Apparel kiosk. I pretty much died when I saw this, which was self-explanatory. It was packed to the brim with pre-teen girls trying to show off their titties way too young. But i managed to score an awesome pink metallic gym bag “from the future”…for $5! normally $30! holy shit!

The New York Times sets up shop. You know they’re hurtin if they’re all the way out here trying to get subscriptions. But, as always, I’m a journalist first and an asshole second. Or maybe its the other way around…

Art guitar. Customized guitars and ukeleles! Pretty self-explanatory. Plus, I was pretty stoned and these ladies were really nice, so I sat and stared way too long at each one of them.

Watchin’ over the flock. Supe Ross Mirkarimi was out to take questions and show support for his district’s businesses. And also, I don’t know how this picture came out like this. Really, I don’t. Could have sworn I saw him hittin’ the bong…

The munchies. Seriously, this place was a stoner’s wet dream. I know no festival is complete without festival food, but they had shawerma! And hot links the size of your head! I didn’t partake, but many people looked happy and sated.

Leopold and His Fiction…have a really hot drummer. Holy shit. Please get at me, whatever your name is. You’re a crazy cat, and I like that. Anyway, check out this band if you can — I was really surprised at how good they were, I pretty much watched the entire show.

Spitting image of an intern. Got all hippied out for the fest, but I wish I would have considered how many drunk stoners would say “Hey firefly, wanna take my picture?” Gag.

So have I convinced you that this is where you need to be next year? Always free, always awesome.

Monica Miller - The Intern

Ms. Miller was born in San Diego, CA to one lesbian mother and one
righteous, cheap father. Currently, she is enrolled at San Francisco
State University for a B.A. in Journalism and the approximate
completion date is around 2015. She has worked for many papers in the
Bay Area, including the Oakland Tribune and the San Mateo Country
Times and is currently the city editor at one of the most
underappreciated publications in SF, the Golden Gate [X]press. Though
she may find bargains aplenty, it only stems from the necessity of
never landing an actual job and working for hacks [like Stuart.] With
intelligence, style, poise, bite, and honesty, she will rip your heart
out; but not before writing some awesome, poignant shit. This year,
she is looking forward to bigger and better things such as: trying to
get paid for a gig, actually finding a date that isn't a loser or
fucking crazy, not calling her parents when hungover and bringing you
the best of the 7x7 everyday of the week. [By the way, I wasn't
kidding about the date thing; if you love food, booze and shoegaze,
get at me.]
