Help Little City Gardens Today!!!
I have always encouraged you to plant yourself a garden, get seasonal starters at plant exchanges, learn how to grow your own food, visit the Bay Area’s botanical gardens, and volunteer at local urban farms. Well, if you’re a bit lazy like me, then you’ve probably only planned to do those things instead of actually doing them. Don’t worry. It happens to the best of us.
Here are two ladies that are not lazy at all, especially when it comes to gardening. Brooke Budner and Caitlyn Galloway started a micro-urban farm in the Mission last year, Little City Gardens. After selling their delicious artisinal salad mix to Bar Tartine for six months, they decided to expand their business (read the full story I wrote on SFGate). They’ve been fundraising on Kickstarter for a few months to raise enough money to quit their jobs, move to a larger space, and pay themselves a meager wage for two months while they get seeds in the ground. They surpassed their original goal but realized recently that there are a lot more costs that need to be covered, including what could turn into a lengthy battle with a zoning issue they just ran into. Cities are throwing up roadblocks for urban farming and we need to help Little City Gardens fight them!
I know most Broke Ass Stuart readers don’t have a lot of spare cash but every dollar counts with this endeavor and in the end we will all benefit. There are only a few hours left in their fundraising campaign, so go scrounge around in the couch for an extra fiver. Budner and Galloway are also amazing artists so depending on how much you donate, you can receive all sorts of handmade gifts!
