Science Meets Kitchen at How to Cook Like a Scientist Night
Past How-To Nights at Bazaar Cafe have taught us how to get a book published, how to grow veggies, and how to make a telescope, among other things — all for FREE. This month, Jeff Potter, author of Cooking for Geeks, will be at the cafe to teach all you foodies how to cook like a scientist.
What does cooking like a scientist or a geek entail? Well, since I don’t know what cooking like anyone or anything entails, I turned to Potter’s website, which (very informatively, I might add) tells me that his book is “part high-school science textbook, part cookbook. With food science, experiments, interviews, and recipes, there’s something in it for everyone.” That actually sounds pretty interesting. Some reviews give me the impression that the how-to night and book are best suited for those kind of chefs that head into the kitchen without any sort of recipe (HOW!?), throw a bunch of shit together, shrug, say “I have no idea what this will taste like,” and of course the dish is always delicious, not to mention a million times better than anything I could ever hope to achieve with my step-by-step pizza-making guide.
Here’s a video of Potter making ice cream with liquid nitrogen. While that’s pretty cool, my skin is starting to break out in hives from even talking about science in this very limited capacity, so I have to stop immediately and think about enjoyable things, like watching slutty broads beat each other up on The Bad Girls Club. But you, classy/nerdy food scientist, must go to this thing tonight — it’s FREE and there will be some experiments that will blow your oversized brains.
