Fundraising Without The Fuss: $10 = Happy Hour All Night!

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

We’re only one month into 2011, but I’m sure many of you have already thrown your resolutions out the window and are simply hoping for next year. Your struggle with that last 10 pounds may be a joke, but cervical cancer, unfortunately, is not. This month is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, a campaign designed to highlight the misfortunes of HPV and what you can do about it if you’ve got it. Since the last thing we all want to do is sit round robin and get extremely depressed over lady horrors of the cancer kind, lets just skip the former and get to what we all love — drinking.

The San Francisco State Health Education Graduating Class of 2011 is has put together a little fundraiser to raise some money for the National Cervical Cancer Coalition and a few extra bucks for their hopefully well attended graduation ceremony. A $10 admission fee not only gets you $3 beers and well drinks all night long, but snacks, guest bartenders and special drinks are also in the mix!

If there is one thing you need to do today, it’s get drunk. So why not make it benefit someone else? Also, to the graduating class of 2011: Lets hope you all actually make it.

Monica Miller - The Intern

Ms. Miller was born in San Diego, CA to one lesbian mother and one
righteous, cheap father. Currently, she is enrolled at San Francisco
State University for a B.A. in Journalism and the approximate
completion date is around 2015. She has worked for many papers in the
Bay Area, including the Oakland Tribune and the San Mateo Country
Times and is currently the city editor at one of the most
underappreciated publications in SF, the Golden Gate [X]press. Though
she may find bargains aplenty, it only stems from the necessity of
never landing an actual job and working for hacks [like Stuart.] With
intelligence, style, poise, bite, and honesty, she will rip your heart
out; but not before writing some awesome, poignant shit. This year,
she is looking forward to bigger and better things such as: trying to
get paid for a gig, actually finding a date that isn't a loser or
fucking crazy, not calling her parents when hungover and bringing you
the best of the 7x7 everyday of the week. [By the way, I wasn't
kidding about the date thing; if you love food, booze and shoegaze,
get at me.]
