Fly: Affordable and Fun for Bar Flies

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

I guess it’s pretty obvious why people who frequent bars a lot are called “bar flies,” but I always get this image in my head of all these big, horse flies swarming around and getting stuck in a puddle of warm beer. They try to move about and escape, but the alcohol always seems to win. That’s one good thing about Fly Bar & Restaurant on Divisidero. Cold beer, a comfortable crowd and cheap bar food.

Happy Hour is the best time to stop by Fly. They’ve got $6 pizzas and $3 drafts from 3:30-6:30 p.m. everyday. The atmosphere is cozy and they have cool mosaics up on the walls. It’s dark and there’s a pool table. The waitresses are cute. They play decent music. The pizzas are greasy and good, and the salads are big. Food is served until 11 p.m.

I can definitely see why bar flies might get sucked in here.  Once again, it is a bar in SF that doesn’t serve hard liquor. But they make it up by making some bomb sake cocktails and sangria. Fly Bar & Restaurant is even becoming a chain now. There’s another one close to Polk St. and they just opened one all the way out in Florida. Keep it cool, and check out the original on Divis.
