Flashback Films in Berkeley
Although I call myself a film buff, I could lose a lot of credibility considering there are some “classics” I’ve never seen. Let’s just say one that I haven’t seen rhymes with “Pasablanca”. I call myself a comedy nerd but I’ve never seen a certain Monty Python movie about someone named Brian. Thank god the fine folks at the UA Berkeley 7 theater run Flashback Thursdays- every Thursday at 8pm, they show a classic or cult favorite for only five bucks.
Although you could easily watch some of these on Netflix, iTunes, or what have you, there’s just something about the group viewing experience of a beloved movie that makes it better. And gives you comfort in knowing that other people love 10 Things I Hate About You as much as you do and sing along with Heath Ledger or that you are not the only one who bawls at the end of Starman (she’ll never see him again, you guys!). Plus, there’s sometimes FREE trivia and popcorn.
The Spring season is just starting, with Jurassic Park scheduled for Thursday, January 12. The upcoming weeks include Rear Window, Ghostbusters, Harold and Maude, and The Big Lebowski among others. You can stay updated on the schedule and vote for your favorites by joining the Facebook group.
