Mission Artist Studio Loses Lease, Art Sell-off to Follow
The artists at Workspace Limited Art Studios have been priced out after 13 years. Yet another creative space for working artists has been sold to the highest bidder in the Mission. In the words of the Cultural Space Coalition:
“Sadly, this update announces that Sharon and Flora’s studio building is CLOSING! Unfortunately, in this 13th years of light-filled artist studios in a wonderful Mission building, the remaining 20+ artists at Workspace are being displaced for higher paying tenants.
Join the final dozen artists as we host a Closing Studios and art sale, this Friday night and Saturday afternoon. On a hopeful note, we’re working hard to develop a new group studio space somewhere in the city. Let us know if you can offer organizational or granting skills that could help make this happen.
Please stop by to say good-bye.”

Are you wondering when San Francisco developers are going to stop trading our affordable housing and work spaces for cash? The answer is probably never…unless we do something about it!
Take this QuickAction to prevent the state from removing local protections on arts & blue collar spaces:
There’s a HUGE callout campaign to pressure David Chiu, since he is San Francisco’s representative and could help save us from a horrendous bill that would allow developers to override local legislation and massively displace arts, blue collar spaces, and affordable housing. The vote is tomorrow(Wednesday) morning so PLEASE (1) sign and circulate the petition, and (2) and make a quick call:
1) Please click to sign this petition:

2) If you have a few minutes please also CALL David Chiu’s office: (916) 319-2017
SAY: “I am a constituent of Assemblymember Chiu’s and I would like him to oppose SB 35 unless it includes community coalition amendments such as a ‘safe harbor’ provision for our low-income communities.”
