Slumber Party to End Homelessness
Ok, the name of this is actually “Sleep Out to End Homelessness” but i used some poetic license.
The fine folks at the Coalition on Homelessness are throwing a Sleep Out to End Homelessness at the Powell Street Cablecar Turnaround during Homelessness Awareness Week. As you know, we have an incredible homelessness crisis in San Francisco. This might give some of us who sleep in homes a little taste of what homeless folks endure every night of the year.
Here’s the info from the FB event page where you can also RSVP:
Join us for a #SleepOut during Homelessness Awareness Week to end homelessness!
Where: Powell Street Cable Car Turnaround by Powell BART
When: Thursday, 11/16 at 5pm
With the adult shelter waitlist at 1000+ people long and as the City continues to criminalize homeless people living in tents and on the streets, we invite all community members to join us for a #SleepOut to bring light to this issue. Bring your sleeping bag, food & supplies to share and your friends!
Questions or want to help contact Kelley Cutler at kcutler@cohsf.org or (415) 346-3740 x 312
Note from Kelley… If you are looking for ways to contribute it would be great to bring food & drinks (water, coffee, hot cocco, etc). Hit me up if you would like to help!
According to Kelley from the COH “Last time we did this a number of people experiencing homelessness told us that the ‘Sleep In’ was the best nights rest they have had in a long time because they felt safe with the group and didn’t have to worry about Sweeps.”
She has a great post about what to expect that night of right here.
Thank you for showing up for your neighbors who are far less fortunate than you.
