What You Can Do To Help End Homelessness in San Francisco
There’s a fantastic measure on the ballot this November that, if passed, will house 4,000 homeless people in San Francisco. It’s called Proposition C and it will expand housing, eviction prevention, and mental health services for marginally housed people by taxing big business.
The folks at the Democratic Socialists of America and the Coalition on Homelessness have teamed up for this measure that will “house over 4,000 families, youth, and adults; provide intensive mental health and substance abuse services; prevent 7,000 households from homelessness through legal assistance and housing subsidies; and ensure that there are 1,075 new shelter beds and keep our streets clean by funding dignified bathrooms and showers.”
And the way they plan on doing it is extra incredible “If passed it would put .05% tax on any San Francisco based company that makes over $50 million a year. This would bring in a whopping $340 million, more than doubling the current amount spent on homelessness services and supportive housing.”
