SF is Celebrating the First Official Tamale Lady Day!
Virginia Ramos, aka The Tamale Lady, was my friend. We had a long history together and she was a constant in the lives of so many people who call The City home. As I mentioned in this tribute I wrote about her after her passing in September 2018, Virginia “wasn’t just a woman who sold tamales, she was a folk hero.” So it’s only fitting that San Francisco is celebrating her with an official “Tamale Lady Day”.
Here’s the word from the FB invite:
Come celebrate the life of Virginia Ramos The Tamale Lady SF. District Supervisor Hillary Ronen will present the official Tamale Lady Day Resolution at 7:45pm. There will be some rockin bands and we will show the movie “Our Lady of Tamale”… There might even be some tamales to eat!
Like so many of Virginia’s birthday parties, this celebration will be held at Zeitgeist. You can see the full lineup of bands (there are eight of them) and festivities on the FB invite.

So please grab a shirt and wear it with pride. You’ll be helping out the family of a woman who helped so many of us out when we needed her most. You can get yours right here.
